More than 80 persons were offered jobs at Fontana's new Waterloo store through a job fair hosted by the pharmacy in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour last week.
More than 80 persons recruited during a week-long job fair hosted by the Ministry of Labour in conjunction with Fontana Pharmacy, will begin working next month when the pharmacy opens its brand new flagship Waterloo Square establishment in St Andrew.
This was revealed by Director at Fontana, Kevin O’Brien Chang while speaking with Loop News on Tuesday.
“The job fair went very well, it was quite successful. We hired about 80-something people and the Ministry was very cooperative, it was a great partnership,” O’Brien Chang said.

“It was a very good experience and I would encourage other companies to partner with the Ministry of Labour,” he added.
The Fontana director said they are on track to open by the middle of September.
In terms of what customers can expect, O’Brien Chang said: “We hope to offer a one-stop shopping experience, that’s our main thing at Fontana, we have the widest range of everything that people need including the things that other people don’t have.
“We always pride ourselves on catering for families, including children. We consider ourselves a family and we look out especially for the children.”
O’Brien Chang expects the escalator and elevator at the new location to be a hit with certain shoppers.
He noted that the escalators at the now defunct Time’s Store and Woolworth on King Street in downtown Kingston were big draws for shoppers, especially children, when they were operational. The escalator at Woolworth has not moved in decades while Time’s Store closed its King Street branch more than 10 years ago after 100 years at the location.
O’Brien Chang said older shoppers should find the escalator and elevator useful in helping to ease the pressure on their knees.
He said the Waterloo location will offer three times the parking space than its current Barbican store.
The job fair ran from July 29 to August 9 and, among the positions Fontana was looking to fill, were pharmacy technicians, floor managers, receiving and warehouse clerks, cashiers, office manager, payables clerk, data entry clerks, supervisors, sales associates, merchandisers, maintenance and custodians.
The new branch will feature a state of the art pharmacy, a one-stop beauty hub, extensive baby and children’s selection, wide-ranging house and home décor collection, full business centre, photo lab, bill payment and courier services.
Fontana Waterloo Square is a two-level, 35,000 square foot space featuring elevators and escalators.
